Film Review

That's probably the most adequate way to describe what I was thinking as the credits rolled for Willard, the 2003 version because, while normally I'm the first to whine about how quick we are in the entertainment industry to spread filth upon the world with sequels and remakes I don't care how good the original 1971 version was it DIDN'T HAVE CRISPIN GLOVER and THAT, my children, is a deal-breaker as far as I'm concerned…Crispin Glover's performance was staggeringly good. I mean it was amazing. The only other movie I've seen him in was that piece of garbage Tim Burton spewed out of his backside about a girl named Alice who travels to this magical land and attends a tea party with a Had Matter or something like that. I forget what it was called, but I guess it was pretty popular and Glover played the Knave of Hearts, or Stayne. And his role, while not exactly small, felt rather insignificant which I think is a gosh darn shame because I hadn't r…

Crispin Glover has never been a slouch in the acting department and has often been at his best playing oddballs and eccentrics so it's high praise indeed when I tell you that his starring role here as Willard is one of his very best.A pitch-black comedy with some horror moments, Willard is all about our titular character and how he finds himself able to direct an army of rats to do his bidding. One, in particular, becomes his friend (Socrates) while another becomes quite jealous and malicious (Ben). With a sickly mother, a bullying boss who wants nothing more than to put him out of a job and out of his home and very little to enjoy in life, Willard needs his friends more than ever.Glen Morgan wrote and directed this movie, based on the 1971 original, and does a really wonderful job of it. Seeing how the film was treated and just what was changed throughout the test screening process before the movie ultimately failed to find an audience ( all details revealed in "The Year Of…

Willard is a social misfit who is made fun of by his co-workers. When he is squeezed out of the company started by his deceased father, his only friends become a couple of rats he's been raising at home. However, when one of the rats is killed at work, Willard goes on a rampage–exacting revenge by using his rats to attack those who have been tormenting him. Led by the unusually intelligent, and deadly rat, Ben, an army of rats descends upon the office, committing a series of grisly murders.Creepy remake of the original with cheap special effects that barely hurt this film. This is great to watch if you really miss Willard and Ben.Rated PG-13 for Graphic Violence and Profanity.
